Take a little space on a Friday afternoon to talk technical with your fellow NZATD members. Show Your Work is a relaxed, member-led session designed to explore practical questions, challenge assumptions, and share insights from the field of training and development.

This session

We are going to test-drive using AI for meaningful feedback

When designing e-learning, making sure feedback  are sharp, meaningful, and genuinely helpful is hard. We usually depend on good quality (!) multi-choice questions.

But - what if our learners are asked to complete a reflective piece of writing and is given meaningful constructive feedback.  With help from AI, it seems we can do just that.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

  • Write a reflective piece using the task below
  • Bring it to this Show Your Work session
  • Be prepared to discuss the feedback from AI
  • Consider if this is a method you would use.

Task: Think of a brief presentation, safety briefing, or technical training slot you currently deliver (or have seen delivered).

Write a short reflection (150–200 words) outlining how you would "flip" this session using Knowles' Andragogy. Specifically, tell us:

  1. What the session looks like before (the traditional approach).

  2. How you will change it after to activate the learners' Prior Experience or Readiness to Learn within the first 5 minutes.

  3. Why this shift will reduce learner resistance.

Resources

Simplified rubric to be used for marking / feedback purposes:

Developing: Identifies the theory but relies on passive elements (like a Q&A at the very end). Simply lists what changed without explaining why.

Achieved: Explicitly shifts control to the learner. Demonstrates a clear method to extract prior experience early, and analyses why it drives motivation.
